In commemoration of World Walking Day, the Geography Education study program of Universitas Negeri Gorontalo (UNG) took part in a healthy walk event and environmental campaign with the theme "Say No To Plastic" which took place at the Merdeka Stadium, Gorontalo City, Sunday (06/10). This event was attended by hundreds of participants from various circles, including student volunteers, lecturers, and the general public who were enthusiastic to participate in real actions to maintain health while caring for the environment.
UNG's Geography Education, known for its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability, carries an important mission in this event, which is to raise public awareness about the importance of reducing the use of single-use plastics. Throughout the event, the students who became volunteers provided socialization for visitors who brought plastic bottles to be replaced with tumblers and went around carrying a board containing an appeal that starting October 6, 2024, they will not use single-use bottles, while inviting visitors to maintain cleanliness and preserve nature.
Not only is it a sports event and environmental campaign, this World Walking Day is also a momentum to strengthen solidarity and togetherness between students and the people of Gorontalo. This collaboration is expected to be an inspiration for other communities to continue to contribute to preserving the environment, especially in facing major challenges such as plastic pollution that threatens the global ecosystem.
