Gorontalo, November 20, 2024 – Students from the Geography Education Program, Department of Earth Science and Technology (ITK), Gorontalo State University (UNG), participated in field practicums as part of their courses in Oceanography, Cosmography, and Hydrology. These activities aim to enhance theoretical understanding through hands-on field experiences. The 2022 cohort conducted practicums in Oceanography and Cosmography at Dulanga Beach, Bongo Village. These activities included measuring marine parameters such as tides, waves, temperature, salinity, and ocean currents. Additionally, night observations were conducted to study star patterns and other astronomical phenomena. Meanwhile, the 2023 cohort focusing on Hydrology carried out practicums in Lomayo Village. These included measuring water discharge, testing water quality, and analyzing river flow patterns and their role in water resource management.

These practicums are designed to integrate classroom theory with real-world application. Through these activities, students are expected to develop a deeper understanding of environmental dynamics, particularly related to marine systems, astronomy, and water resources. The hands-on experience also equips them with skills in field measurements and data analysis, which are essential components of geography education. As a regular agenda in the Geography Education Program at UNG, these field practicums ensure that students are well-prepared to face challenges in the professional world and contribute meaningfully to natural resource and environmental management.
